On December 16, the Brenner Real Estate Group sales meeting was held at the headquarters of Broward 211. Our CEO Scott Brenner is a board member at 211 and he wanted to use the sales meeting to educate our staff on the fine work being done by the organization.
Here is the 411 on 211…
Broward 211 is a 24-hour helpline connecting people to over 4,000 social service programs. The agency, which opened in 1995, took over 100,000 calls in 2012. Whether it's a family losing their home, a veteran needing medical help, a teenager facing bullying, individuals facing substance abuse or mental health issues, or a family with a special needs child, 211 Broward’s counselors will address these issues and connect those in need with those agencies that can best solve their problems. Broward 211 also operates a senior touch program, making daily calls to seniors living alone who have limited contact to the outside world.
The FCC has designated 211 as a dedicated help line throughout the U.S. Over 90% of the U.S is covered by 211 service provided by independent regional agencies But unlike 911, which is publically funded, 211 gets a large portion of its support through private donations. Broward 211 employs 45 full-time counselors who are required to have a 4-year degree in psychology or social work. They are also required to take a nationally accredited training course in compassionate listening, emphasizing concern, respect, empathy and warmth. The difference between 911 and 211 is that 911 requires immediate emergency response while 211 provides counseling and information.
An example of an agency in the 211 network is Ronald Mc Donald House which we recently featured in our blog. If the parent of a child undergoing medical treatment calls 211, they will be connected not only to medical service providers, but may also be directed to Ronald McDonald House, which can provide the parents with a place to stay within walking distance of the hospital.
One of the great things about 211 is that supporting the organization provides great networking opportunities for businesses. In February, Broward 211 and PNC Bank present the “Non Profit Academy Awards” at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel. This gala event recognizes some of the fine work being done by non-profits throughout Broward.
Club 211 is an easy way to support the organization. For a $211 annual donation, members get featured on the 211 website and get to attend quarterly Club 211 networking events. Scott Brenner or one of our associates can hook you up with Club 211 or visit the website at www.211-broward.org. In addition, Brenner Real Estate Group has made the following pledge: For any business we generate through our relationship with Broward 211, 10% of any fees earned will be donated to the organization. This could be a commission for sales or leasing office or warehouse space or part of our property management or receivership fees. This is just one of the ways Brenner Real Estate does well by doing good!
